The NEC DSX Standard Voice Mail is available in 3 different sizes. One is the 2-port X 8-hour configuration, the second is a 4-port X 8-hour configuration, and the third is the 8-port X 16-hour configuration for larger phone system configurations
The NEC DSX Pro Voice Mail is available in two different sizes. One is the 4-port X 16-hour configuration and the second is the 8-port X 32-hour configuration once again for larger systems. The most notable differences between the two voice mails is the pro version has 32 automated attendant mail boxes for routing and announcement greetings and the pro voice mail has the capability to send voice mail messages to a users email in an MP3 format.
The definition of the ports is the how many connections can be made to the voice mail system at one time. This needs to be considered when planning a phone system configuration. For instance if you want all calls to be answered and routed by the automated attendant you need to consider how many calls will be coming into the system at one time as the automated attendasystem one incoming call will use one of the voice mail system ports to answer and route a call. Once the call is answered and routed then the voice mail port will be freed up for another incoming call. Also when a user is checking thier voice mail that also takes up a voice mail port. This makes the Pro Voice Mail a cost effective feature as all of the users voice mail messages will be sent automatically to their email not using a voice mail port.
